1. SHELLY  BEACH CLUB - 2*

Location: A palm fringed beach 3 miles south of Mombasa, over the Likoni ferry.

Accommodation: 134 rooms, all with balcony or terrace, private bath or shower & w.c. Standard rooms are very basic and simply furnished with twin beds and fan. Air-conditioned rooms are better furnished, air-conditioned with bath / shower and are in garden cottages or garden rooms. Sea front Deluxe rooms as Air-conditioned with a 4 poster bed, separate sitting area and patio / terrace facing the sea.

Facilities: Restaurant, pool side coffee shop, pool bar, a lounge with bar, swimming pool with sun terraces, an ornamental pool for little children and a children's mini club (4-11 yr.) from 0930-1600 hrs Mon-Fri. Regular entertainment includes theme nights, disco and tribal dancing shows. Anchorage is made for all room service.

Opinion: An unpretentious hotel, excellent value for money. A favourite with those who appreciate informality and friendly service. Prices are All Inclusive based on standard rooms. 3.  PAPILLON LAGOON REEF -  5 ****  ( DIVING)

Location: Papillon Lagoon reef is set in 5 arces of tropical gardens, overlooking a loely stretch of sandy beach in Diani, some 90 ins. from mombana airport
Accommodation: A total of 123 attractive rooms, each with air conditioning ceiling fashower and balcony or terrace. Superior rooms are as above. overlooking the gardens. sea front rooms are more spacious and also have four poster beds, television, telephone and sea view. Family rooms are as superior rooms with rear garden view and an additional area with 2 extra beds plus an additional WC and hand basin.
Facilities: Pool side restaurant for breakfast and lunch, plus the main hotel restaurant where dinner is served. The hotel has a choice of bars, including a swim-up pool and a children's club range of sporting facilities, there is regular evening entertainment is held.
Opinion: Built in traditional swahili style, the superior medium- class papillon Lagoon reef is a welcome new addition to our Kenya beach programme, offering good standards in a wonderful location.

4. INDIAN OCEAN BEACH CLUB - 4****  (DIVING)

Location: In 25 acres of gardens, some 20 miles south of Mombasa on a lovely stretch of beach at Diani. Approximately 90 minutes from the airport.
 

Accommodation: 100 rooms in thatched cottages tastefully furnished with locally hand-crafted furniture and colourful local fabrics. Rooms have air-conditioning, bath, shower, ceiling fan, telephone, mini-bar, balcony or patio. Club rooms are in two storey cottages, each with five rooms, overlooking the gardens. Ocean front rooms are grounded floor in cottages each with three rooms overlooking the beach and with tea and coffee making facilities.

Facilities: An attractive free-form swimming pool, with three plunge rooms scattered throughout the grounds. There is a choice of restaurants, a bar and leisure facilities include floodlit tennis and FREE non-motorised watersports  including snorkling, pedaloes, windsurfing and an introductory scuba lesson. Deep-sea fishing, scuba diving and glass bottom boat trips can be arranged locally at extra charge as can bird watching on the tiwi estuary. There is occasional evening entertainment.

Opinion: A romantic and elegant first class hotel offering superb hospitality and some of the most attractive rooms along the coast.

5.  TRAVELLER'S TIWI BEACH - 5*  (DIVING)

Location: On the beach at Tiwi, just north of Diani, 23 miles south of Mombasa.

Accommodation: 200 air conditioned rooms, each with a Queen Size bed and one single bed. All are air-conditioned, with en-suite bathroom&wc, telephone, TV and balcony or patio. Most rooms have a view towards the sea.

Facilities: The main restaurant for half board meals and three speciality restaurants offering Indian, Italian an Oriental food ; There is a 24 hr coffee-shop and 3 bars including a beach-bar serving light snacks. Sports and watersports include tennis and squash, windsurfing, and scuba diving. There is a well equipped fitness centre similar to that at Traveller's Beach Hotel. One of the principal features of Travellers Tiwi is a spectacular free-form swimming pool running 160m through the hotel gardens towards the sea. There is a night-club and regular evening entertainment including traditional Kenyan shows.

Opinion: Sister property to the Travellers Beach Hotel at Bamburi, this is a good medium grade hotel, well managed and friendly, with comfortable rooms and friendly service. The location is idyllic, albeit a little remote, and a taxi will be needed if you intend to visit other hotels or restaurants.
