JORDAN --Jordan Highlights

Amman (3 nights), Petra (2 nights), Aqaba (3 or 10 nights).

Day 1- (Sat) Depart London Heathrow for Amman. Stay at the Hotel Radisson SAS or regency palace for 3 nights.

Day 2- Morning tour of Amman visiting the Citadel, the archaeological and traditional jewel & costume museums and the impressive Roman amphitheatre. Afterwards visit the "Desert Castles": the remains of Qasar-Al-Hallabat built in the 7th century; the castle of Qasar-Al-Azraq built around 13th century and used by T.E Lawrence in 1917 as his HQ during the Arab revolt against the Turks; the remarkable well preserved castle of Qasar-Al-Kharaneh and then Qasar-Al-Mushatta, the biggest and most lavish of the Omayyad castles. Finally on to Qusayr (little castle) Amra the best preserved of the desert castles.

Day 3- Morning's visit to one of Jordan's major attraction, the remains of the ancient Greco-Roman of Jerash, build over 2000 years ago. Continue on to Umm Qais, the site of the ancient Greco-Roman town of Gadara, a place where Jesus is believed to have visited and then into the Jordan Valley and the ancient city of Pella.

Day 4- Morning drive south to the Biblical Moabite town of Medeba (Madaba) best known for its mosaics. Visit the archaeological park, the Hypoclitus Wall, the church of the Apostes and the museum. Continue west to the area of Mt Nebo one of the supposed sites of Moses' tomb. Drive south for a visit to the crusader town of Kerak dominated by the fortified citadel and continue south topetra and the Hotel Movenpick, Grand view or Plaza for 2 nights.

Day 5- Full day to explore petra, the ''Red Rose city. Reach the city through the siq a narrow winding gorge. This incredible city was built by the Nabataeans some 2000 years ago. Only a few monuments stand free, hundreds of them are hewn into the rock withcaptivating facades. Fr the more energetic a climb to the ''Higher places'' is worth the effort, to reach the monastery will take approx. 1 hr but the monastery is as breath taking as the view over the Wadi Araba beyond to Aqaba.

Day 6- Drive south, in the foot steps of Lawrence of Arabia, to wadi Rum passing through remarkable desert scenery, unique and bizarre rock formations. Continue to the Red sea resort of Aqaba for a short city tour. Stay at the Hotel Radisson SAS, coral Beach or Gulf Hotel.

Day7&8- At leisure in Aqaba.

Day 9- (sun) Transfer to the airport for your return flight to London via Amman or extend your stay in Aqaba by 7 nights. Opinion: A classic tour of the Kingdom of Jordan's major attractions and an opportunity to relax at the Red sea resort of Aqaba.
