The United Arab Emirates was formed in 1971 by several neighbouring states including Dubai. The city offers very high standards and is an ideal base from which to safari in the desert, explore old forts, visit the camel races or just lie on the beach and soak up the sun.

Howard Johnson Hotel

Location:  In the heart of the city opposite the Al Ghurair shopping centre on Riqqa Road. Just 10 kms from the airport.
 
 Accommodation: 108 well appointed air conditioned rooms. Tastefully furnished with mini bar, safe, satellite T.V, phone, hair dryer, bath/shower w.c.

Facilities:  A choice of restaurants, Grill and bar open all day, Indian restaurant, European night  club/disco and roof top Pub with live entertainment. There is a roof top swimming pool with Jacuzzi, sauna, massage and business centre.

Opinion: Howard Johnson offers good accommodation in an excellent location close to the main shopping area.

Location: Set on Jumeira beach approx. 25 mins from Dubai city centre and 15 kms from the airport.  This new resort opened in early '98.

Accommodation: A 10 storey building housing 231 bedrooms and suites The rooms are attractively furnished and have air conditioning, mini br, safe deposit box, bathrobes, satellite TV, telephone, hair dryer and bath/shower w.c.
Standard: rooms are land facing and most have no balcony.  Superior rooms are sea facing and have a balcony.

Facilities: The Bazaar main restaurant.  Bier Stube open for lunch and dinner most days. Al Mahar shellfish restaurant open for dinner most night, Flamingo lounge.  Laguna bar.  In the grounds there is a swimming pool, with swim-up bar, Jacuzzi, children's playground, grass tennis court, gymnasium, sauna for ladies/gents and steam room, games room, shopping area and on the beach watersports are available.

Opinion: Sister hotel to the Jebel Ali and managed by an experienced team this new hotel offers good facilities on the beach close to Dubai city and the airport.

The Jumeirah Beach Hotel

Location: A superb location on Jumeirah Beach 30 min from the airport & 20 min from the city.

Accommodation: This impressive new resort is 25 floors high and has 600 air conditioned rooms and suites all with sitting area, sofa, sea view, mini bar, telephone, television, large bathrooms with bath and separate shower.  Deluxe rooms have a king size or twin beds, some rooms have balcony available at a supplement.

4 floors of 85 luxuriously furnished Executive club rooms with dedicated complimentary facilities: express check-in daily newspapers, fresh flowers on arrival, use of bathrobes and slippers,

Health and Recreation Centre, breakfast and beverages in the Executive club lounge area.  Junior suite have a king size or twin beds and a combined in Aug'99, are 19 one and 2 bedroom luxury villas located alongside the resorts'new Wild Wadi water theme park.

Facilities: The resort offers an excellent range of facilities 18 restaurants and bars.
A shopping arcade with over 20 shops, well equipped fitness centre, sauna & Jacuzzi, 4 swimming pools with poolside snack bar, 7 tennis courts, 3 squash courts, golf driving facility, a supervised club and playground is available for children 4-12 years at an extra charge.

Purpose build conference centre  that can accommodate up to 1600 guests.  A marina and water sports centre with water-skiing, para sailing,  wind surfing, sailing, deep-sea fishing and scuba diving available.

Opinion: An excellent resort made famous not only by its striking wave-shaped design but for offering an excellent standard of accommodation and a wide selection of facilities in a superb beach side location.

Location: A new resort on Jumeirah Beach, within easy walking distance to the many exclusive shopping malls and 15 min. from the airport.

Accommodation: 195 well appointed rooms and air-conditioned and have satellite TV, mini bar, hair dryer, safety box and bathroom with bath/shower w.c.
Standard: rooms have a king size or queen size bed and no balcony.  Deluxe have twin beds and balcony.

Facilities: There are 5 restaurants: Al Qasr Lebanese, La Taverna Mediterranean style, Thai bistro, La Capanna Nuova for Italian dishes, and The Alamo for Tex-Mex dishes, Swimming pool and children's paddling pool with sun terraces, gymnasium with steam room, 2 squash courts and 2 tennis courts.  On the beach watersports are available.

Opinion: A welcome addition on Jumeira Beach offering excellent dining.

Location: In the city some 15 min from the airport, Dubai Marine is within walking distance of the main shopping areas of Dubai.

Accommodation: The 77 air conditioned rooms vary in size and are attractively furnished and have one double or twin beds, radio, telephone, luxury bathrooms with hair dryer, bath, shower w.c.

Facilities: Marco Polo restaurant offering Chines, Thai and Indian cuisine, Thatcher's Free House and restaurant offering Continental cuisine, Ayam Zaman Lebanese restaurant open in the evening, just off the lobby, the lounge bar.  Regular shuttle service is offered to the Dubai Marine Beach Resort on Jumeira beach where clients can enjoy the beach and some of the most popular restaurants in town.

Opinion: A good base for shopping and sight seeing with access to the facilities of an excellent beach resort.
